For neighbors who need help
Who can get food from Common Ground Ministries?
Anyone in need. We serve individuals, families, and seniors across Luzerne, Carbon, and Monroe counties in Northeast Pennsylvania. There are no religious requirements — we are a non-denominational ministry and our motto is simple: everybody eats.
Does the food pantry cost anything?
No. All of our groceries, deliveries, community meals, and events are completely free. Common Ground Ministries is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded by donations and grants so that neighbors in need never pay a cent.
How do I get free groceries?
Call or text our hotline at 570-801-2699 to set up an appointment. We offer curbside pickup at our center in Beaver Meadows, PA, and we can deliver groceries to your home if you don't have transportation.
Do you deliver food?
Yes. If you have no transportation, we bring free groceries to your door anywhere in our Luzerne, Carbon, and Monroe county service area. Call or text 570-801-2699 to arrange a delivery.
What if I have a food emergency?
Call or text 570-801-2699 and tell us it's an emergency. Because we own our building in Beaver Meadows, we're able to respond to food emergencies around the clock — not just during pantry hours.
What do I need to bring or show?
Just yourself. We don't require proof of income to feed you. If you're picking up curbside, we'll ask for basic contact information so we can serve you better and let you know about future distributions and free events.
Is Common Ground Ministries only for Christians?
No. We are a Christian ministry, but our food, events, and services are for everyone regardless of faith or background. We're committed to a community where everyone belongs — that's what finding common ground means.
Can you help with things besides food?
Often, yes. We've helped neighbors with housing and rental assistance, furniture, transportation, translation, and referrals to physical and mental health services through partner agencies. Reach out and we'll listen — and connect you with help wherever we can.
For donors, volunteers & partners
How is my donation used?
Directly on food and the programs that deliver it. Because we buy food for pennies on the pound through food banks and recovery partnerships, every $5 you give lets us provide about $250 worth of groceries to a family — and $10 covers delivering it to a family with no transportation.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Common Ground Ministries is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in good standing in Pennsylvania, so your gift is tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. We'll provide a receipt for your records.
How can I volunteer?
We welcome volunteers for pantry distributions, grocery deliveries, the Garden of Eating, food-recovery pickups, and monthly community events. Call or text 570-801-2699 or email us, tell us what you enjoy doing, and we'll find you a place to serve.
Can my business, church, or farm partner with CGM?
Absolutely. Grocers and restaurants can donate surplus food, farms can invite us to glean harvests, and churches and businesses can sponsor events or fund programs. Banks, corporations, and congregations across Northeast PA already partner with us — join them.
Can I donate food or plants instead of money?
Yes. We accept non-perishable food, fresh garden produce, and vegetable starter plants for the Garden of Eating. Contact us first at 570-801-2699 so we can coordinate drop-off at our Beaver Meadows center and route your gift where it's needed most.
